I loved this movie! It had twists and turns in the plotline that were just a perfect continuation of the tv series and so fitting for each of the characters. The fashion was fabulous. The hi-jinks with Samantha were so funny. I laughed. I cried. It was a wonderful, cathartic experience that I have not had from watching a movie in a very long time. Just perfect!

I know that this movie wasn't intended as a film with meaningful content but, as someone whose age group (just 40) is portrayed, I thought that just a teensy bit more realistic display of maturity was warranted. I loved the show and appreciated the close friendships, but part of the movie is built around the fact that these women are now older and have (supposedly) become wiser. Their break-ups and misunderstandings at this point in their lives are tiresome and, as plot for a movie (and not a TV show about 28 year olds), too thin. I couldn't sustain myself on the sometimes rediculous costuming and hair, particularly on supposedly professional women with age written across their faces. It starts to look sad, as if the women they portray never realized that their 80s styles were no longer flattering. I was looking for a truly grown up version of the show and didn't get it. On the plus side, Big is hot, hot, hot (eyejob or no) and if those women didn't have body doubles for the bedroom scenes, they looked great. I would have seen the movie, no matter how many bad reviews I read, but I won't watch it again.
Pros: Good shots of New York, pure entertainment
Cons: Very thin plot, degenerated portrayal of mature, professional women

I watched every SATC on HBO and I loved this long awaited release. It did have its ups and downs but that is SATC! These gals are still FABULOUS and I loved every minute of it. I laughed, I cried and I even clapped. Well worth the long wait for it's release. I hope there will be more. If you never watched the show you will probably not get it, but if you are a big fan like I am then you will love it. Enjoy!
Pros: Fabulous!
Cons: Too many girlfriends talking during the movie!

As I walked in for the 4pm Matinee this Saturday, two 30 something ladies were noticeably upset that the Pacific Culver Stadium theaters would not issue them refunds for their recent showing of SITC due to the fact that 30 mins into the movie, above-head microphones and other things that SHOULD have been edited, were clearly seen for about 5 minutes during the show. I wanted to see this so badly, I discarded their rants and raves, and purchased my ticket for $8.75. Before the movie began, the mgr came to the front of the theater and explained the situation (and he said that EVERY theater was getting this same problem with the film) and offered refunds if anyone found this 'unacceptable'. Low and behold 30 mins in, there it was: visable overhead microphones, above head screens, even voices from the staff that was filming. The audience laughed, but it was surprising that these were not editted.... I would have given it four stars otherwise
Pros: SITC delivers over 2 hours of great drama, laughs, and tears!
Cons: Did anyone edit this film?

I wasn't always the biggest SATC fan; I watched all the shows on DVD. It was like watching women from another planet; I've never met any women who dressed or acted like these women (with the possible slight exception of Charlotte and Miranda). But I did look forward to this movie and it is actually what you think it might be which is a very long episode. But it is good to be back with the girls and their clothes and hair and shoes. It really was a "leave your everyday life behind for two hours at the movies" experience. And that was a pleasure to do. So the Good; not a lot of Carrie voiceover (that would have been bad), Jennifer Hudson was good in her slight role and she made the most of it, Kristen Davis did the best job I thought and was the funniest by far and, it was a good escape film. The Bad? The women are still pretty shallow (especially Carrie - she always manages to get how she's screwed up too late), Big never got to be his devilish self (and he had an eye job and actually it looks pretty good but you can still tell), Steve was pretty whiny, Charlotte's husband barely registers and the gay friends (who you could count on for a laugh) are also underwritten. The Ugly? Well, maybe not the ugly but it's time for these actresses to put these characters to bed (so to speak). They all, to a woman, look older and wearing bright red lipstick doesn't help. This was the first time I ever thought of Kim Cattrell as middle-aged. Kudos to Sarah Jessica for a scene where she is wearing no makeup and no flashy clothes; she really looks her age there. Also, true to form, we saw some lack of clothing from all the actresses but SJP (and seeing Cynthia Nixon and David Eigenberg having intercourse was not good). SJP does appear in her underwear. But it is fluff and fun and a fairly good time. The 4 actresses do make you believe in their deep friendships. But, like George Lucas, someone else, with fresher eyes, should have written the script.
