Editorial Review for Signature Room at the 95th – by J.P. Anderson

In Short
No wonder this place is packed--95 floors up, the view of the cityscape is amazing. The interior is elegant with patterned carpet and an art-deco mural. Service is friendly and efficient. The upscale American menu includes dishes like shrimp cake in spicy lobster broth, rack of lamb, and seared ahi tuna with wasabi aioli and crunchy shredded daikon.

Food and view were both very good. Service was a little different. We had to ask for refills on drinks and when we did, there was a ten minute wait before we received it. We felt that you don't get the right amount of attention for a $250 dinner. Because of the amazing view and pretty good food we would go back. We were also a little disappointed that after spending that much money we thought we would be able to get in at the lounge, but the person running the line to get into the 96th floor lounge was very rude and acted more like a bounce of a night club rather than a person from a nice restaurant.

I took my girlfriend here as a surprise to end a trip to Chicago. I made reservations for 8PM(Because sunset was listed for 8:15, but things don't get dark until about 9). To get there you take an express elevator which takes probably less than a minute to scale 95 floors(Your ears definitely pop!). When you get there, you're greeted with the most spectacular view of the city you could ever hope for. I got there 30 minutes early because I wanted to request a south window seat early(The view of the city which has the skyscrapers, lake, Navy Pier, etc) and you are NOT able to request a table with your reservations, meaning that we had to wait for one. At 8 the server said that it could be over an hour before we were seated, but amazingly at 8:30 he called our name and gave us an amazing table. The service here was impeccable, the only issue is that the servers did not seem very personal at all. We were served by about 3 or 4 different people, none of which introduced themselves, and they seemed to serve the section as a group, as several people got their dessert, checks, etc all at once. We ordered almost all of the vegetarian selections on the menu, the appetizer was a mushroom strudel with goat cheese and truffle which was delicious, even though I don't like mushrooms! It was also very well presented. The main courses were a different story. I ordered the grilled eggplant which was drenched in a sauce which didn't taste very good and didn't feel like it was cooked amazingly well(It was, however, well-presented). My girlfriend got pasta primavera which was delicious, but it didn't seem to be anything you couldn't find elsewhere. The desserts were well-priced, she got the creme brulee which was about what you would expect, and delicious. The atmosphere well makes up for all of this, it is a sight that cannot be captured in the photos.

Pros: View from any spot, amazing service, great appetizers and dessert, not extremely expensive

Cons: If you're looking for an entree that will amaze you, look elsewhere
