Editorial Review for Moosejaw Pizza & Brewing Co. – by Peter Behle

The Scene
The simple formula works to perfection--great pizza, plenty of beer and games for the kids. This huge log cabin is three noisy floors of dining and drinking. The beer brewers are on the top floor with a balcony view of the main dining area; the second floor is the loudest with the most seating; while the bottom floor features more dining, an arcade, pool tables and dart-boards. Despite it being a micro-brewery, Moosejaw still manages to be over-the-top family-oriented with most tables occupied by a three generations from grand-parents to grand-kids.

The Food
The pizza comes with a thin crust and a tangy tomato sauce, while toppings vary from the basics (pepperoni, sausage and veggies) to the more creative (taco, fajitsa and barbecue sauce). The beer and cheese soup is a must-try, with slices of sausage for added flavor.

My first visit to Mosse Jaw was about two years ago. They used the freshest ingredients on there pizza and there dough was incredible. The beer is always out of this world as well. Unfortunately, the last two times over the past year they have decided to go with a cheaper mozzarella on there pizzas. The cheese is gooey and has a snotty texture. You can always tell if a restaraunt uses nasty cheese because it will have this snotty feel and look to it. This is unfortunate because I know people that have stopped going there because of this. My wife and I will not be going back for at least a year. Too bad, they used to have great pizza.

Pros: Incredible beer and ambience is cool.

Cons: Mozzarella on pizza tastes and looks like snot!

Unfortunately we didn't discover Moosejaw last trip until we were on our way home. The food was wonderful, the service was about the best we ever had and the atmosphere was fun. We will definitely eat there at least once on our next trip - probably more!

Pros: service, food, atmosphere

Editor's Review

Simply put, this log cabin-style brewpub and pizza joint is the most popular restaurant in The Dells--and with good reason.  See the full editorial review.
