The Scene
Located at the side of the bridge into downtown that marks the delineation between the Upper and Lower Dells, this long-time (open since 1979) Mexican restaurant boasts a terrific view--particularly if you're able to sit out on the patio. And since it's just steps away from the Lower Dells boat launch, the Mexicali Rose is the perfect spot to hang out if you're taking a pass on the boat rides. The inside dining rooms are fine and some tables to have a view, but aim for the patio if the weather is cooperating.
The Food
The menu here is predictable, with all the usual offerings from tacos and enchiladas to combination plates and fajitas. And the food is A-OK, though nothing spectacular. Go for one of the affordable 20-ounce margaritas, though, and it's a sure bet you'll be happy--even the top-of-the-line margarita (made with Cuervo 1800 tequila) is just 10 bucks..
